Kwalli commonly known by the northerners as eyeliner is a local cosmetic used to define the eyes. It is applied around the contours of the eyes to give it a defined beautiful outlook. The kwalli as we all know is a local stone that is grounded into powder form. The kwalli is used on babies, adults and even older ones. It has been used since ancient time in parts of Asia, Arab, India, Indonesia and some Islamic countries.
Aside from adding beauty, Kwalli is said to have some medicinal value to the eyes. It clears the eyes, brightens and gives it a clearer vision. In the north kwalli is used on new born babies both male and female, with the belief that it helps in the development of the eyes.
