It’s another exciting week, thanking The Almighty for another new and blessed week in the month of Ramadan. Thank you all my faithful readers for always sticking around. This week on ManCrushMonday we will be checking out a notable man in the northern part of the country in person of HRH Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido II who happens to be the 14th emir of Kano.
Sanusi is the grandson of Muhammadu Sanusi I, the 11th Fulani Emir of Kano. He received his primary education at St. Anne’s Catholic Primary School in Kakuri, Kaduna from 1967 to 1972 where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He then went further to attend Kings College Lagos where he graduated in 1977.
He was then offered provisional admission to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, where he obtained a bachelors degree in Economics in 1981. After achieving this, he then obtained his masters degree still in Economics from the same school in the year 1983, and then taught there until 1985.
As a dedicated man to his studies and lover of his religion, he went further to attend The International University of Africa in Khartoum where he received a degree in Islamic Law. He then served his country by observing the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Service where he was posted to Gongola state (now Adamawa and Taraba States).
Emir Sanusi started his banking career in the year 1985 where he was hired by Icon Limited (a subsidiary of Morgan Guaranty Trust) and Barings Bank. He then joined the United Bank for Africa in 1997, working in the bank’s credit and risk- management division, and rose to the position of General Manager. In September 2005, Sanusi became a board member of the First Bank of Nigeria as an Executive Director (CEO) in January 2009. At this time Sanusi was chairman of Kakawa Discount House (where he was board member of FBN Bank). He was the first person form northern Nigeria to be appointed CEO of FBN. During the Umaru Musa Yar’adua, Sanusi was nominated governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria; his appointment was confirmed by the Nigerian Senate on 3rd June 2009 during a global financial crisis. During Sanusi days in the banking sector, he did a massive job by contributing to a risk-management culture in Nigeria banking. Sanusi was also the first northern Nigeria to become CEO in First Bank History one of the African’s oldest bank. Great man I must say!!!
