At least 21 people have been killed and 37 others abducted following a deadly attack by suspected gunmen on a community in Sokoto State.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the community in large numbers, firing indiscriminately and forcing residents to flee for safety. The raid left dozens dead, while several others were taken away into the surrounding forest.
Witnesses said many homes were looted during the attack, with the gunmen also making away with livestock and other valuables. The incident has forced many residents to abandon their homes over fears of further violence.
Security agencies have reportedly been deployed to the affected area to restore order and begin search-and-rescue operations for the kidnapped victims. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of those abducted.
The latest attack highlights the persistent security challenges facing parts of northwestern Nigeria, where rural communities continue to suffer from recurring incidents of banditry, kidnapping, and deadly violence despite ongoing military operations.
