The Federal Government has placed 944 communities across 21 states on flood alert following a fresh forecast issued by the Federal Ministry of Environment, warning of a high risk of flooding between August 2 and August 15, 2026.

According to the ministry, the forecast indicates that the affected communities could experience varying levels of flooding during the period, prompting authorities to urge residents to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to protect lives and property.

The government advised state emergency management agencies, local authorities, and residents in vulnerable areas to closely monitor weather updates and prepare for possible evacuations where necessary. It also called on communities to clear drainage channels and avoid activities that could obstruct the free flow of water.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant agencies to reduce the impact of flooding through early warning systems, emergency preparedness, and timely response measures.
