We need a constant reminder that many diseases and conditions can be prevented or controlled through appropriate personal hygiene and by frequently washing parts of the body and hair with soap and clean running water. Good body washing practices can prevent the spread of hygiene-related diseases. A good personal hygiene is one of the most effective ways to protect ourselves from many illnesses. There are many ways by which we can live a healthy life simply by taking care of our body and staying clean: Below are thefour most important ways to staying healthy.

Hand Washing

Good personal hygiene is one of the most effective ways to protect ourselves from sicknesses and diseases. This means washing your hands especially, but also your body. It means being careful not to cough or sneeze on others, cleaning things that you touch if you are unwell, putting items such as tissues (that may have germs) into a bin. Our hands are usually exposed to anything because we touch all sorts of substances with it, making it available and vulnerable to all sorts of bacteria. Most infections, especially

colds and gastroenteritis, are caught when we put our unwashed hands, which have germs on them, into our mouths. Some infections are caught when other people’s dirty hands touch the food we eat. Hands and wrists should be washed with soap and clean water, using a brush if your fingernails are dirty. Dry your hands with something clean, such as paper towels or hot air dryers. You should always wash your hands after using the toilet, before making or eating food, after handling dogs or other animals, and if you have been around someone who is coughing or has a cold/flu.


Bathing is very important in maintaining a good personal hygiene. Bathing is very much dependent on the culture in which you live. It is expected that you wash your body at least every day and use deodorants to stop body smells. Body smells can be caused by a number of factors including:Chemicals in sweat, wastes excreted through the skinlike metabolised alcohol, the actions of bacteria that live on the skin and feed on dead skin cells and sweat, unwashed clothes, especially underwear and socks.






Use of Deodorant

We all need added protection against body odour. Whether at the gym or in an important meeting, it’s very likely that, without some type of deodorant, we’ll sweat and let out a little odour. Not a pleasant topic, but it can’t be ignored. Choosing the right deodorant is just as important as wearing it regularly, not just because you need to find one that will provide lasting protection, but will be safe in the process and make you smell good.Deodorants are good because they block odour. They accomplish this by killing the bacteria that cause odour. From a purely natural standpoint, it makes more sense for us to use deodorants, as it is a more natural process.






Brushing of Teeth

It is often advisable that we brush our teeth twice a day,that is, morning and before going to bed. Although we have been brushing all our lives, most of us still do not know the proper way to brush and around someone who is coughing or

keep our mouth clean. Keeping your mouth clean keeps it away from smelling bad. Brush at least twice a day with any good toothpaste for at least two minutes, especially first thing in the morning and before bedtime. It is also important to floss every day – usually at bedtime. You should limit the number of times you eat snacks and sweets each day. It is very important to visit your dentist every 6 months for an oral exam and professional cleaning.

Failure to keep up a standard of hygiene can have many implications. Not only is there an increased risk of getting an infection or illness, but there are many social and psychological aspects that can be affected. Poor Personal Hygiene, in relation to preventing the spread of disease is paramount in preventing epidemic or even pandemic outbreaks. To engage in some very basic measures could help prevent many coughs and colds from being passed from one person to another.
