Ukrainian authorities have accused Russia of committing a war crime following the alleged killing of a businessman in territory affected by the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
According to Ukrainian officials, the businessman was reportedly detained by Russian forces before being killed under circumstances they describe as a violation of international humanitarian law. Kyiv said the incident is being investigated as a possible war crime and vowed to pursue accountability through legal channels.
The Ukrainian government called on the international community to support efforts to investigate the case, stressing that attacks on civilians and other protected persons during armed conflict are prohibited under international law.
Russia has not publicly accepted the allegations and has previously denied accusations of committing war crimes during its military operations in Ukraine.
The latest accusation adds to a growing list of alleged violations being investigated by Ukrainian authorities and international bodies since the war began, as calls continue for accountability and justice for victims of the conflict.
