An Interracial couple is the term used to describe the relationship between two people from different racial groups. Just like every other couple, the two people of different races meet, fall in love and decide to spend the rest of their lives together. They then get married, have children and all of that happily ever after fantasy. But then, that is what everyone wants isn’t it?

So, what then makes interracial couples so different from everyone else?  Why do they have to suffer the stigma, being ostracized from the Society because of their skin colour?

True love has no boundaries. Love is an emotional bridge that brings people together across boundaries. When two people are passionate about each other; their race, or cultures becomes insignificant. Practically speaking, it is extremely selfish to want to determine to others who they choose to love; not to mention impossible. Because true love is selfless, sacrificing, gratifying, brings about unity and acceptance of all races, tribes, languages and religion, an Interracial relationships show is a perfect example what love really is. A society that does not unite, gives room for ignorance, illiteracy, failure and many other ills to thrive.

On a personally level, I truly believe those who pursue a relationship outside of their race, understand the concept of true love more than those who confine themselves to their kind.   The basis of any successful relationships happiness and understanding, therefore as long as you are happy you’re your partner, Skin colour should not matter. As long as you’re happy with that special someone, go right ahead and enjoy it to the fullest. Please be who you are, love who you choose to and to be with, smile at everyone, don’t miss out on all the millions of good people out there just because of different skin colour, upbringings and opinions.  Do not limit yourself or your happiness.

In the bid to make the society understand the beauty and uniqueness in interracial relationships and also how exciting it can be, I would like to highlight some of the following advantages derivable from it. You open yourself up to learning new stuff: In high school, I went over to a classmate’s house and she was a daughter of Mexican immigrants. First thing I noticed was that their house was starkly different from mine, and for lunch her mom made Mexican food. Ohh boy, I enjoyed all of that pork and cheese and ate so much till I thought cheese was going to grow on my hair! I believe that is what dating someone from a different background is like all the time. You learn from them and gain an in-depth view of the happiness and struggles that exist within that person’s culture, beyond the food of course but also their lifestyle, appearances and sometimes taste in fashion. “No you can’t ever fully understand someone else’s life, but you can be deeply immersed in it empathetically, emotionally, and culturally,” says Katie Kim, a senior at the University of California, Los Angeles. In all honesty your partner should be happy to teach you about what they experience within their own racial community. That will give you the opportunity to see the world in another pair of eyes and not you can’t put a price on that, it’s invaluable. Opportunity to escape your ideological viewpoint Every person has their own particular views and understanding in various topics during debates and in casual conversations.  So, imagine having the opportunity to see things in a totally different light; a perspective that is totally different from yours. Wait, that’s not the best part! Look at it this way; you have all these new approaches to ideas and fresh ways to interpret things. Your attitude and angle in life may change depending on the kind of person you are, every day will be like a new adventure. You start from taking part in activities you never thought was worth your time and sometimes unreasonable. Definitely I don’t believe you will change completely but you will begin to see what you couldn’t before. More like a beautiful learning experience every day.

You represent progress and maturity In Virginia on July 11, 1958, newlyweds were arrested for breaking a law which prohibited marriage between two different races. In 1955 Ruth Williams Khama and Sir Seretse Khama lived for eight years as exiles in England, until a personal cable was sent to the Queen in protest. Louis Gregory, an African American man married Louisa Mathews in New York 1912, becoming the first interracial Bahá’í couple. Louis Gregory became a strong advocate for racial unity in both the United States as well as within the Bahá’í community. Despite countless obstacles, the couples stayed together and stood for what they believed in. Interracial love has been around for a long time and has been fought for you.

Don’t give society the power to take away what already belongs to you. Instead show all the progress we’ve made in civil rights. You get to make the world a better place. Being in an interracial relationship shows you’re living proof that love conquers all. Not only are you inspiring hope in others but also letting them know it’s okay to stand for what you believe in no matter what society says. Society cannot tell you how and who to love. I mean is there anything more beautiful in the world than people of different cultures coming together? Be brave enough to do what makes you happy against all odds. Society will be sad. But you have love.

So, you win!
