By Yunusa Isa, Gombe

The Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) and the National Population Commission (NPC) has sought for public understanding, support and cooperation towards the success of the ongoing 2023/2024 demographic and health survey.

Speaking to newsmen during a press conference, the chairman National Population Commission Nasir Isa Kwarra represented by the Gombe State Director at the commission Jude Maigari, said the demographic and health survey is key in policy formulation for national development.

He said “This survey has been instrumental in providing invaluable insights that inform evidence-based policies, enhance public health interventions, and contribute to the broader development agenda of our nation”.

While appreciating the support of various stakeholders in the exercise, Maigari appealed to households to support and cooperate with the enumerators who are goin round for data collection in some identified locations across the state.

He equally appealed for the support of traditional and religious leaders in sensitizing their subjects on the importance of the health survey.

On his part, the State Coordinator Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey Adeleke Balogun said the survey is not only after information and statistics, but will equally serve as an outreach to improve the health standards of the identified households and communities.

He said 30 households were selected from 30 clusters in each state and the Federal Capital Territory, where children from birth to five year, women from 15-49 years and men from 15-59 years will be interviewed during the six month exercise.
