Academic staff at a state-owned university in Ondo have reportedly not received their salaries despite the release of a ₦1.1 billion intervention fund by the Ondo State Government.
The lecturers expressed concern over the continued delay in salary payments, saying many of them are facing financial hardship despite the government’s financial support to the institution. They called on the university management to provide a clear explanation regarding the disbursement of the funds.
According to reports, the ₦1.1 billion intervention was approved by the state government to support the university’s operations, including the payment of outstanding staff salaries and other critical expenses. However, lecturers say they are yet to benefit from the intervention.
The affected staff have urged both the university management and the Ondo State Government to ensure transparency in the use of the funds and to settle all outstanding salary arrears without further delay.
The development has renewed concerns over the funding of public tertiary institutions and the welfare of university workers, with stakeholders calling for greater accountability in the management of intervention funds and improved financial support for higher education institutions.
