The Abuja metropolitan management Council (AMMC)and standard organisation of Nigeria in collaboration with Abuja traders Union have discussed on the need to wage.a war against fake and substandard products.
At a meeting on Thursday in Abuja, the coordinator AMMC Umar shuaibu said the meeting was conducted to take measures in checking un approved products in the capital city.
While speaking to journalists mr shuaibu said the men of the standard organisation of Nigeria were attacked and prevented from carrying out its statutory functions.
The standard organisation is a body in charge of checking fake an substandard in the country.we had a situation whereby by SON went for enforcement in Apo market to check the activities of proliferation of illegal tires,and the officials were attacked. And their vehicles vandalised.
They resorted to us as the city managers because nobody can stop any government agency from performing its constitutional rights therefore we have to collaborate with SON and the market traders, in particular, the tire dealers so that the unfortunate incident won’t repeat itself.
However the Director of operations (SON)Dauda Yakubu said that the organisation is open to working with any traders association to rid Abuja of fake and substandard products.
While responding, the chairman Apo tires Dealers Association, Chimezie Ife,said that where there are both the good and the bad people in the market, the Association is doing everything possible to purge itself of the bad elements within her members.
