Portion Control



Portion control means choosing a healthy amount of certain food. Portion control helps you get the benefits of the nutrients in the food without overeating, portion control is important because it helps maintain a good lifestyle and avoid certain health conditions.

There’s this saying “too much of everything is bad” this means – portion control helps you digest food easier and maintain a healthy weight that is in compliance with the body mass index (BMI); this means the body mass divided by the square of the body height and its expressed in units of kilogrammes or pounds resulting from mass in kilogrammes and height in meters.

Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat, this means if you can control your portion of daily consumption of meals and snacks you consume, you can live a healthy lifestyle and overcome ailments that can be acquired due to not living a healthy lifestyle. Do you know by not eating healthy, diabetes can set in due to being over weight?

Diabetes is a disease that result in too much sugar in the blood. It means a certain weight is gained, this can cause a condition in which the blood sugar can spike but not too high to be type 2 diabetes.

This is where portion control comes in. Because if its not controlled, it can lead to a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin at all.

• Reduce your carbohydrate intake.
• Use smaller plates
• Use measuring cups to control your portion
• Finish your meal with fruit
• Make sure you check food labels for portion nutrition information
• When eating out, ask for less portion.

Be aware of the actual amount of food you consume and adjust it based on its nutritional value. Live a healthy lifestyle – have your weight checked; that way you will be free of ailments that can limit you in life.
